Sahir Ludhianvi- Film songs and poetry Kabhi Kabhi

I always liked this one. The kind of song that anyone who has ever fallen in love and had to give up his passion would wistfully listen to. This was visualised with rare sensitivity by Yash Chopra in the movie Kabhie Kabhie. Amitabh Bachan reciting this in his baritone voice lends it a timeless aura all its own. I think the Nazm at the start of the song is simply poetry at its consummate best.

This version has the lyrics and the song is played to a remix rhythm.

The version featuring Sahir Ludhianvi's complete Nazm. The Nazm is recited well. But the song is sung off key by a chap called Malhotra and I would suggest you move onto the Mukesh version which comes below this video once you are through with the Nazm:)

For those who love the filmi version. the Music is by Khayyam and sung by Mukesh.

Hindi Film Music:Eyes, eyes, baby:) In praise of the "window to the soul"

A magazine survey among men revealed that "eyes" were the most attractive feature in a woman.Given that in surveys and in public fora, men tend to be politically correct:) we believe them, though we believe in private, their eyes would be locked elsewhere:)
Poets and sensitive souls however find "eyes" to be very attractive and inspiring.. here are a few examples

Safar: Jeevan se bhari teri aankhen...lyrics by Indeevar and music by Kalyanji Anandji, sung by Kishore Kumar.

Umrao jaan: In ankhon ki masti

Guide: Tere ye do nayane chand aur sooraj mera..

CID: Aankhon se aankhon mein ishara ho gaya, baithe baithe jeena ka sahara mil gaya

Mera Saya: Nayanon mein badra chaye...

Anpadh:Aap ki nazaron ne samjha pyar ke kabil mujhe..

Woh Kaun Thi: Naina Barse..rhim jhim...

Anwar:Tose Naina Lage

OM Shanti OM: Aankhon mein teri ...

And from Hollywood the romantic "Look into my eyes" from Robin Hood by Bryan Adams.

Har Ghar Kuch Kehta He - Love in the times of house hunting :A Mumbai story

Love in the times of house hunting( Har ghar kuch kehta he!)

I guess anyone and everyone who had to fend for himself and not depend on his parents wealth, would have  passed through these times; staying in a metro as a paying guest, putting up with idiosyncratic landlords and inane rules, dealing with rogues who appear as real estate agents and who seem to thrive on sucking your lifeblood every eleven months, wishing that you had a place to call your own where you would be the king,  living life exactly the way you want, without bother. I went through these pangs during the early part of my career but thanks to Gangadharan Menon, my creative partner, and my parents egging,I finally dared to buy a piece of the Mumbai sky in the late 90's. An investment that was timely, and has proved to be wise.
My immediate motive at that time, was that any girl I brought home as my wife, should not have to stay as a tenant and should have free reign of her home and kitchen. An archaic thought possibly. However, the house happened, but the home never got started :) To para phrase Neil French, when I was young and homeless, they wanted an address, when I got one, they wanted somebody younger, so there I am, king of my four walls and all by myself! But not very unhappy about it, I must confess!!! You see, it brought home a truth, that true happiness comes from within, and it does not depend on the four walls of concrete around you!!

The songs below tell the tale of a fictional story that captures the Mumbai spirit well. Enjoy.

The hunt begins...

Weaving dreams and keeping the wolf away....

Remembrance of things past: A lil love "isthorey" - Hindi FilmSongs

Given below are a few songs that one used to hum when Cupid made one his target. It has no relevance today since one is more concerned these days about Lord Yama making an appearance on his buffalo:). Well, for those who did not follow that,I was merely suggesting that one was more likely to be preparing to meet St Peter at the pearly gates than being chased by Cupid and his arrows:).
Can "one" continue? :)

How trouble starts ...tumko dekha to yeh khayal aaya...

Talk about looking for trouble :) meet na mila re man ka...

You find someone.. say something and she hears something...Jaane Kya tune kahi..jaane kya meine suni.. baat kuch ban hi gayi...

The banwara bada naadan he...bagiyan ka mehman he... phir bhi kaliyan ka muskan he

People start playing flute at odd hours and the lady wants to know "man kyon beheka aadhi raat ko..."

and one thing leads to another ...then you see dreams.. tere mere sapne ek rang he..

Time starts playing tricks... waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam..

Theory of Relativity : time moves too fast and it is abhi na jao chodkar

You start small ... choti choti si baat

Managed to capitalise on limited time available: loote koi man ka nagar ... :)

Yes, gentlemen always marry their sweet hearts: teri bindiya re... (all time favourite)Yes and thanks to De Beers, some jewelry comes between lovers:)(no this is not a product placement: LOL)

Everything is hunky dory and you like everything around you. "Bade ache lagte hain yeh dharti yeh raina"

Raina ke saath chaand bhi niklega.. Chaudvin ka chand...

Start of trouble: Not at home when others are home and singing: Swami is out on work!

Soon trouble starts, complaints, shikwas, etal : tere bina zindagi se koi shikwa to nahin..

The net result .. saanj dale ...gagan tale ...hum kitne ekaki... well not counting the other woman:)

Things go from bad to worse and it gets into insomnia and cribs :)

Then you pine for her :Kabhi Kabhi and then... hamesha :) (my favourite)

At first you don't succeed you try harder :) tum bin jeevan kaise beeta .. poocho mere dil se.. I mean when you get hit, you stay hit:)

With passing age ... panic sets in..:)

As in all romantic stories "every body lived happily ever after.. after a few tears" :)
