TV Channels: Case Studies: Colors

Colors was launched when Sameer Nair was launching NDTV Imagine and Peter Mukerjea was set to kick start his channel 9X. However it was Colors that stole the show. It is now a leader in the GEC space and the key differentiator seems to be Rajesh Kamath and the ability of his team to understand viewer requirements and manage content. TV Channels: Success Stories- Nickleodeon

Nickleodeon has made it to the top spot among Hindi speaking households beating Hungama, Pogo and Cartoon Network. In the All India network, Pogo rules followed by Cartoon Network and Nick is third followed by Hungama.
While in Frankfurt I had come across a seminar featuring Japanese animation series which were a big hit there. Manga was the term used. Not surprisingly Japanese cartoon characters too find favour here. Some of these aspects are touched upon by afaqs in the article.

TV CHANNELS : CASE STUDIES OF REVIVAL

SONY Entertainment Television moved down from the top perch in 2001 -2002 to almost the bottom of the heap by the time it was 2009 and it saw the exit of the CEO Kunal Dasgupta and also the Business Head Mr Albert Almeida. It was under Mr Albert Almeida's tenure as Business Head recently that the slide was pronounced with most new programs ending up as duds and these include "Big Boss" which did very well when it was handled by Colors in its next edition. In fact it was admitted by the channel that all the programs it created were losing propositions and it was outside programs that were bring in revenues like the IPL and film programs. The following article in afaqs looks at how the channel is planning a come back with a new team and new programs. Worthwhile read on how a team with talent and the right experience can change a channels fortunes. We wish them well

Saiyaan ched dewe,
Nanad chutki leve,
Sasural genda phool,
Saas gaari deve,
Dewar samjha leve,
Sasural genda phool,

Chora babul ka angana,
Bhaave deraa piya ka ho,
Saas gaari deve,
Dewar samjha leve,
Sasural genda phool,

Saiyaan hai vypaari,
Chale hain pardes,
Sooratiyaan niharu, jiyara bhaari howe,
Sasural genda phool

Saas gaari deve,
Dewarji samjha leve,
Sasural genda phool,
Saiyaan ched dewe,
Nanad chutki leve,
Sasural genda phool
Chora babul ka angana,
Bhaave deraa piya ka ho,

Bushirt pahine, khayee ke bida paan,
Poore Raipur se alag hai,
Saiyaan ji ki shaan,

Sasural genda phool,
Saiyaan ched dewe,
Nanad chutki leve,
Sasural genda phool,
Saas gaari deve,
Dewarji samjha leve,
Sasural genda phool,
Chora babul ka angana,
Bhaave deraa piya ka ho..

Roughly translated by someone"morphnw" on you tube, prasoon joshi may please forgive this...:) just so that people who don't follow the language know what this is about!
My husband teases me
and his sister finds it funny,
Mother-in-law calls me names,
but my husband's brother mediates,
My in-laws' home is like a marigold flower (sasural genda phool)

I've left my father's home,
Now I love my beloved's abode,
Mother-in-law calls me names,
but my husband's brother mediates,
My in-laws' home is like a marigold flower (sasural genda phool)

My beloved is a business man,
He's going abroad,
I stare at him lovingly,
but my heart is heavy and sad.
Mother-in-law calls me names,
but my husband's brother mediates,
My in-laws' home is like a marigold flower
My husband teases me
and his sister finds it funny,
I've left my father's home,
Now I love my beloved's abode,

My husband, wearing a button-down shirt,
looks really handsome, chewing on a paan,
he looks in a class of his own in Raipur.
My husband teases me
and his sister finds it funny,
Mother-in-law calls me names,
but my husband's brother mediates,
My in-laws' home is like a marigold flower
I've left my father's home,
Now I love my beloved's abode,

THE PEANUT PRINCE OF ARGENTINA, FROM INDIA

Simmar Pal Singh is an alumni of the INSTITUTE OF RURAL MANAGEMENT ANAND and hence the interest in this article. Also at a time when Indians are getting bashed up in Australia, this is a feel good story of a Sikh youth who has won laurels in a foreign land and is treated as a "Maharajah" for his turban and beard rather than as a Taliban Terrorist!!
Simmar Pal Singh cultivates 12,000 hectares of peanut farms and another 5,000 hectares of soya and corn in Rio Cuarto area in Cordoba province, about 1,000 km from Buenos Aires. His target is to take his company "Olam" among Argentina´s top three peanut players in the next few years. When he came to Argentina in 2005, his company was 28th in ranking in peanuts and he has already made it sixth this year.Argentina is the second largest exporter of peanuts after China, accounting for 25 percent of the world trade in kernels. Rio Cuarto region produces high-quality peanuts with its ideal soil and agroclimatic conditions. Read more from the links below:
